Hello all, its my first post and I'm searching for some speaker quidance. I am looking to buy a pair of bookshelf speakers for my office, approximately 13x9. They'll be used for music only - everything from accoustic, classical and jazz to house, funk, and electronic, though no rap or hard-core. My budget is $300 and they'll be run on an Onkyo TX-SR500. I'll buy new, used, refurbished. I live in a Best Buy/CC kind of town, so my options are low, though there is a B&W distributer in town.
I know this is HT based forum but I am sure there are some music fans out there (!) with a discerning ear for quality audio on a budget.
Thanks ahead for any and all help.

Hi Elad,

Welcome to HTF!

Don't sell BB and CC short -- both carry some very nice speakers! Since you have a CC in your area, you might want to check out the Polk Audio RTi28 and RTi38. Both are good speakers and on sale right now -- $199.98/pr. and $279.98/pr. respectively. BB recently added the Athena line of speakers to their inventory which are also well regarded.

If you don't mind buying on line/by phone, here are a couple of other suggestions:

1) Ascend Acoustics CBM-170
http://www.ascendacoustics.com
$28.00 over your budget plus $8.00 shipping

2) Dahlquist QX series

http://www.audioshop.on.ca
Take advantage of the US/CAN exchange rate!

3) Mirage FRx-3
on sale now at http://www.audioadvisor.com

Good luck, enjoy the search/auditions, and let us know what you end up with.

Debbie
