Yamaha's newest recievers can decode a 6.1 DVD soundtrack using their 6.1 matrix mode but in their careful marketing words they never state that it uses the Digital Dolby EX standard to accomplish this. I see that it is not advertised as DD-EX compliant either (just 6.1 capable). I'm wondering if they are just using there own propriatary decoding to accomplish 6.1.

Input anyone ???

chances are its the same thing, but they didn't get the license for it. the reason i say that is that DD EX is acheived simply by applying pro logic in 3 CH stereo mode to the rear two channels to generate that rear center. seems like this would be easy enough to accomplish without actually licensing anything new.

of course, yamaha does tend to create a lot of their own DSP surround modes, so it's possible that they've come up with their own way of doing it....
