Yamaha RX-V1400 help with 7.1 (1 Viewer)

I have a Yamaha RX-V1400 amplifier and I’ve always used it in 5.1, I’ve finally got around to connecting my two rear speakers for 7.1. They don’t seam to work properly, they work when I do the setup and they work on 7 channel stereo but not on any other setting. Does anyone know what I may be doing wrong? Or does 7.1 only work on some settings?

Here's what your are probably doing wrong:

1. You are playing a movie, which is not encoded in Dolby Digital EX or DTS ES - both 6.1 formats, but will play through both back channels in mono.

-OR-

2. You are listening to a disc encoded in 5.1, but you do not have Dolby Pro-Logic IIx or THX decoding engaged.

I was just using the wrong setting.

Finally I have 7.1

I think MacIntosh's MA6500 is a better amplifier system.
