I'm sure most of you have seen it already, but IGN posted an interesting interview with Ed Fries today.
In it he talks about such things as MS' relationship with EA:
In it he talks about such things as MS' relationship with EA:
IGN: What do you think about Sega's strategy of exclusive products for each console? Do you think or hope that's going to change pretty soon?
EF: Basically, you talk to a developer and they always want to develop for one platform because it's a pain in the neck to do cross platform and it always leads to compromise. Publishers for the most part will choose cross platform because they think if they can put it out on more platforms they can make the most money. So then there's this tension between development and the business side of publishing. What you see in Japan, is that the development side has a lot of power. If you look at some of the US publishers, they tend to be more publisher and business driven than developer driven. Both of them can work, take Tecmo for example. They've done a great job doing exclusive stuff for Xbox that we really appreciate but they've also done some exclusive stuff for other platforms. And some frustrating E3 teasers, including an as-yet-unannounced Rare game for this year. Good 15 minute read, even if a lot of it consists of "Wait 'til E3".
