Why do the trailers from the xbox look better than the upscaled signal from the the oppo digital???

Probably because the xbox 360 trailers in question are natively 720p, rather than upscaled to 720p from 480i as the Oppo most likely is doing. That is to say that the 360 trailers are already recorded in a higher resolution.
