why is a ota converter box needed (1 Viewer)

i know someone that just bought a sony KP51WS500 are there anything good or bad about having or not having a ota box and is it realy needed. Don,

Don, that set like most does not have a built in HDTV tuner, which means that if your friend wants to watch the high def programming that will really show the TV off then he will need a set top box.
Many network television stations are now broadcasting at least some of their programs in HDTV. So with a STB and antenna he can receive those shows.
Also, both Dish and DirectTV have HDTV channels, so with the right satilite receiver he could get those. And finally some cable companies are starting to provide HDTV channels, so again a new cable box is needed.
