Im doing a crossword puzzle for my World History Honors class, and I'm stuck on four problems.
1) _ _ L _ Polo wrote a book on his travels to China.
2) _ L _ _ _ N _ _ is the most important Italian art center.
3) Palestrina wrote M _ _ _ _ for the church.
4) Palestrina: Italian, wrote C _ _ _ R _ _.
Any help would be great. :)

3) Palestrina wrote M _ _ _ _ for the church.
Well the pieces he wrote were known as Masses, motets, Magnificats or madrigals (madrigals being secular so probably not for the church)-- but none of these fit. Are you sure this is the number of spaces?

Vince,
I think you may have missed the most obvious answer.
MUSIC

How can the first one not be Marco Polo?
I don't know any other Polos who wrote about world travels. Of course, history is not my strongest subject.
Oh, perhaps whoever designed the puzzle goofed on number 1 and meant to write
Marco _ _ _ _ instead of _ _ _ _ Polo, because "Polo" would fit in the spaces you have indicated.
Little Matty, huh? You don't expect me not to run with that one, do you?

You sure that is an L in problem 1? I thought it would be "Marco Polo", but the L doesn't make any sense. Might be an alternate name for him...

2) Florence

3) Music

4) hmmm, can't find anything that matches...is it supposed to match a song name or a type of music?

That is an L in the Polo question... and there are only four spaces. I thought it was Marco, but it can't fit. Maybe his real name is Polo Polo? ;) If I can't get a response for it, I'm putting in Polo. :)
Florence and Music both fit (thanks Max and John). Now I just need to find which Polo fits :) and what type of music Palestrina wrote (the clue asks for what type of music).

Hey, Little Matty, are you sure you have all the other answers right?

4) Palestrina: Italian, wrote C _ _ _ R _ _.
Choral, doesn't fit

Cappella, doesn't fit

Catholic, doesn't fit

Unless they think Choral is spelled Choiral, I don't know.

????

Matthew, is that C---R-- one word, or supposed to be two (4 letter starting with C, 3 letter starting with R?) Maybe I'm missing the mark because it is two words.

Strange

Counter-Reformation is a style ... but nothing fits the blanks.

Marco is an Italian name ... Something stinks here.

I think Rain has the POLO one nailed. It's probably a mistake.

Vince,

Don't feel too bad. I actually went upstairs, got my Dictionary of Composers and was on my way back to the computer before it hit me.

I'm trying to find some form of "Chorus" that fits the last one, but I can't come up with one.

Florence! I knew that one would be a head slapper once someone got it. I was trying to think of a museum.

I was just thinking "choiral" as well for #4, but I don't think that is actually a word.

Another mistake perhaps?

One of the great joys of my high school days came in the form of pointing out errors made by my teachers. I had an English teacher who insisted that the subtitle of Dr. Strangelove was "How I Stopped Worrying and Learned to Love the Bomb."

I just realized I made a little mistake. With what music Palestrina plays, it's six spaces, not seven, so choral does fit (thanks Vince) and that's what I put.

I'm pretty sure Rain was right with that the people who made the crossword for a mistake, so I just put Polo there as I dont think there are other Polos out there.

I love my reference books. I found this mid seventeenth century definition of Chorus in my massive Oxford English Dictionary.

A band of dancers, or of dancers and singers in ancient heathen worship.

Kind of ironic.

Matthew - Perhaps you should found the HHF - Home Homework Forum :)
Good luck with your assignment - you already know more world history that I do (It's amazing how much history you avoid learning, pursuing a science education :) )

If #1 isn't a mistake and there actually is another Polo, let us know, ok?
And if you don't get an A we will all be severely disappointed. :D

Okay, I need one more answer and I'll be finished.

Presbyterianism was the religion of:

S _ O _ _ A _ _

I also made sure that's all the spaces in the word. :b
