I have decided on the Pioneer Elite 45tx and was hoping someone could direct me to a good vendor. Is it important to go through an authorized vendor?

Thanks for the link Garth. Do you know if they are authorized to sell Pioneer? They state that they are not an authorized dealer of Yamaha, Denon and Acoustic Research but do not mention Pioneer in this exclusion. Also have you had any personal experience with this company? I will see if I can find any ratings on them.

true...true...
but www.soundpros.com claims to honor the warranties if Pioneer doesn't for some reason... plus they have decent pricing...Which is why I'll shop there soon enough. A friend of mine coincidentally bought his 33TX there...and said they even did a follow-up call. Kinda neat...

The warranty sheet that comes with the Pioneer states that the warranty is void if the serial number is altered.

There was a thread here a while back started by a guy who bought a 45tx on line and it had the factory serial number label scratched off.

I got mine from Etronics and the number was unaltered.

If the serial number is altered that would mean to me that the box is no longer factory sealed and and in my mind can no longer be considered brand new and I wouldn't accept it. I will look for the thread about the factory seal being scratched off so I can make sure I avoid that vendor.

Andrew_B said there are no authorized Pioneer Elite dealers online but etronics states "We make sure that all the products we sell are backed by comprehensive manufacturer warranties and technical support*. " The astrics states that this does not apply to the Yamaha, dennon, or Acoustic Research. So is Andrew_B incorrect or is etronics flat out lying?

I think soundpros.com is a good place too. A friend of mine bought a Pioneer receiver and some "Energy" speakers a couple of years ago from them and hasn't had any problems. They were very nice and were very fast. Here is a link for "elite' products.
http://www.soundpros.com/pioneer_elite_home.cfm
They also state this:
ABOUT OUR PRODUCTS
All of our merchandise is "BRAND NEW" USA product and comes factory sealed with all original manufacturers supplies and paperwork. We do not sell "B" good items on this site.Every shipment is packed with extreme care, always in brand new condition. We back everything we sell 100%!!!

Hi Chis--well i have a few things that might or might not help you-- from what i found. I was thinking about getting a elite vsx47tx and wanted to get it from a authorized place. One of the only autherized places i found was soundcity. Now they say they are not allowed to sell over the net-- but the way they do it is you buy it over the phone i think-- and they send it to you with a reciept and bam there you go-- you have a recitpt and with it comes a full warrenty. Also though they have a price of 2999 on the unit(they have to post the correct price to stay in good with pineer) i was looking at-- i showed them another site that had the unit for around 1700 and they met that price.. Also if you go here
http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/Pi...0~6040,00.html
You will see that pioneer does have some online places that are authorized-- onecall is authorized and sells them-- but would be careful--i was one of those that got one of the bad HK avr8000's-- i had to send it back on my dime and am still waiting for my refund-- but alot of other people have had goodluck on here with them-- so take that for what you want. Goodluck-- if you go to soundcity-- there is a click here to get a price quote-- they then will send you a email saying to call them-- i think i talked to peter-- and he was the one that said ok on the 1700 price-- goodluck.

Tim,
I ordered my 45tx from etronics last week, should be here any day now. They said they'll cover for anything for 90 days, there after they were less specific. However, the Philips service plans they offer will cover it completely. The 2 year plan is $49 that matches Pioneers. So you still pay a great price and get legitimate full coverage. I'm going to punish mine as much as possible for 90 days to make sure there are no problems, then get the service plan. Hopefully I'll have no trouble.

Timber,

I was thinking it would still be a lot cheaper to get it from somewhere that may not be authorized and spend the $50 for the Phillips service plan. I would be interested in hearing from someone that has had to use the Phillips service plan to see what thier experience was. I'm definately not going to pay $1000 or more for this reciever from an authorized dealer just to have the security of the manufacturer's warranty. If I can't get an authorized dealer to sell it to me for around $800 - $900 I will probably go the route you suggested.
