Stir of Echoes is actually anamorphic widescreen. The package was misleading by being labeled "16:9 Fullscreen", thus to the astute DVD watcher, meaning 1.78:1, not 1.33:1.
So your friend still watched a widescreen film with Stir of Echoes, that or he stretched the picture.

Today I printed out some examples of widescreen vs pan & scan off of widescreen.org. I used Indiana Jones and Tomorrow never Dies. I showed these examples to J6P and he was flabbergasted. His reply: "Wow, I can't believe they cut out that much picture for "full screen"." "That's amazing". One particular scene from Tomorrow never Dies with the sign "The Empire Will Strike Back" proved to be the best example of widescreen over p&s. He commented that shot never made since to him until he saw today.
I believe we may have a convert. Today was a good day. :)
