What's the deal with HDTV in the UK/Europe (1 Viewer)

What's going on exactly, why aren't HDTV sets available yet?

Any information greatly apreciated.

I've read of no plans to bring a high-definition standard to the United Kingdom, which blows. "Digital television" in the U.K. means something altogether different from what it does in the U.S. Wish I had good news for you.

So, ok there won't be HD broadcasts but what about for HD DVD's, Games consoles like Xbox with HD support? Actually ive heard the HD cables for xbox in the uk have been withdrawn.

Could you still buy a HDTV in the UK and use it soley for DVD/Games and watched tv at the uk standard resolution? Can any HDTV's input a standard PAL signal?
