my parents are looking for a new tv, and I am trying to help them figure out what they should look at. What is the best they should look at for picture quality, features, and different types like DLP, LCD, CRT, they would like something that isn't so heavy, but since it's no more than 50 inches I don't see a problem

The main problem I have run into is finding a decent picture or test in a store. any ideas?

Check out the Grand WegaIII 50incher. They are retail about 3299 but you can haggle it cheaper. It's an awesome tv and mine is on it's way.

If weight or depth is a concern, CRT is out. That leaves you with plasma, DLP, LCD or LCOS. They all have their pros and cons, so do a search on, for ex. "DLP vs LCD" and you'll be buried in info. Most B&M stores have 30 day return policies, so narrow it down and live with a set for a weeks. Good luck!
