I have the digibook DVD and it's a pretty wretched viewing experience. Can someone explain how the Blu-ray and, now, 4K UHD look considerably better?

I think it's safe to say that with each new format, a lot of attention is being put into making a film of this caliber look better than the prior.

The Blu-ray and 4k release should look miles ahead of the DVD you own. However, as Robert has pointed out above, the link to Mr. Harris' post should make you a believer.

Thread 'A few words about...™ To Kill a Mockingbird -- in Blu-ray'

Thanks for the link, Robert. I hate being disappointed, hence the thorough research. Was the Blu-ray master created at the same time as the 2005 anamorphic DVD? Or were there further improvements done (after 2005) to create the existing Blu-ray?
I don't have a 4K player. Has Universal explained the restoration work required to create the 4K UHD disc?

"4x Sharper than HD" seems like a bit of a loaded statement for a film that's already mostly sourced from 2nd-3rd gen fine grain master positives. But then again, considering how bad Universal's old transfers used to be maybe it is.

For anyone waiting, the pre-orders have gone live now at the link Ron posted.

Amazon is also taking pre-orders for the new Blu-ray only edition, which is what I want.
