Toddj can you repeat the problem or is it random? I have not encountered that problem and was wondering what the circumstances were and if I could duplicate the problem on my unit.

Todd, what video connection are you using? Composite, S-Vid or Component?
can you repeat the problem or is it random?
I can recreate the white flash on a number of discs. See my thread http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htfo...hreadid=124305.
I've searched for "white flash" at HTF, DVDTalk and HTSpot and this has been reported on all kinds of TVs and DVD players. The common thread being an S-Video hookup.

DennisFawcett, you are using the S-Video connection? Just want to clarify beacause both players you mention are progressive scan and I want to make sure you're not using component connection.

ToddJ Mine is composite
Hmmm...my Tosh K510 (a.k.a Tosh SD1800) would not white flash when I used composite.

:) hi,i am using component cables, that is the only way to get
the 480 or 520 p signal to a hd moniter.the toshibas call it
color stream imputs.with the toshiba 3800 you can switch from
interlaced to progressive signal with the remote on the sony
i have now you cannot.someone can correct me if i am wrong
but i believe the progressive input bypasses the comb filter
thus a more pure signal from the imput device.

another problem i have is that the menu screens don't always indicate which item is being selected. However, this rarely happens....

I solved the white flash problem by trying the Sony NS715P. See my thread link above. No dropouts or white flashes whatsoever using S-video. This behavior has been seen on the Tosh SD-K510, SD-2800, and SD-4700.
