Plus a very reasonable guess as the British Board of Film Classification has labelled it DR. NO - ULTIMATE EDITION DVD - VALUE ADDED MATERIAL
Every time I watch Dr. No I am amazed at what Ken Adam accomplished in relation to the set design - particularly on a very limited budget. Absolutely incredible.
Checking the BBFC content for these new editions, it looks as though the DVD's will be very similar to the previous ones, except with the addition of archive footage (chat shows, etc...), and more storyboards etc..
All in all, I doubt it will warrant a complete repurchase.
(Unless they deliver all the OHMSS missing footage, as well as deleted scenes from the others!)
A few years ago, DVDSavant posted an article about this confusing jump cut featuring a brief investigation of it. I don't know if there has been any updating, but the link is here:
So MGM have started putting through the additional material for the 'Ultimate Edition' DVDs? Very interesting. It's no wonder then that the 20-film tin collection is selling so cheaply at the moment. I remember paying more for the 17-film VHS boxset!
It goes without saying (but I'm gonna do it anyway) that the video and audio of these new releases had better be spectacular. I'd rather buy a remastered movie-only version so I wouldn't have to sell my previous Bond DVDs, but if MGM have dug up more archival material to go alongside the existing extras then that'll soften the inevitable double-dip. I just hope that the unedited versions of OHMSS and License to Kill make it out this time.
I remember posting some really cool proposed cover concept art earlier this year from a site I came accross that was designing the discs and packaging I believe. Can anyone find that link?
Unfortunately, the pictures no longer seem to be featured on the website anymore but it did previously advertize a "James Bond 40th Anniversary Collector's Edition 20 Disc Film Compilation" in their portfolio section...
The thing is that Lowry can restore the prints to the point of perfection, but if the actual transfer isn't up to scratch then its not going to make any difference.
I find the Bond disks to be among the poorest image quality of all my DVD's.
The Bond films are only about 3-4 mb per sec bit rate. MGM's Terminator hovers around 6-8mb per sec and it shows - great image.
If they stick on tons of "Bonus" material then I won't be buying as the image quality will be terrible, I just hope they see sense and use 2 disks.
- BILL SUITOR: THE ROCKET MAN MOVIES - A CHILD'S GUIDE TO BLOWING UP A MOTOR CAR - JAMES BOND 007 RAINCOAT - JAMES BOND 007 SLACKS - JAMES BOND 007 ACTION PAK - KEN ADAM'S PRODUCTION FILMS - THUNDERBALL - THUNDERBALL BOAT SHOW PROMO - THE INCREDIBLE WORLD OF JAMES BOND
Looks good, and it's nice to see 'The Incredible World...' on DVD after years of being only available on the 1996 LD. Unfortunately though, still no sign of the infamous 'Disco Volante Tour' deleted scene.
Does anyone have a recap page listing which 007 clasics were at least partially video "restored" or "remastered" for the 3 DVD boxsets (now OOP)? Was it only the ones done when the laserdisc boxsets were released pre-DVD?
It seems that Thunderball (5.1) was cleaned ALOT up more than You Only Live Twice if you watched them you'd see obvious problems w/ YOLT such as grain, specs, dirt, etc. which was really terrible.
Then again, i'm not buying these again until Hi-DEF, and then only select ones... still curious as the Lowry restored versions would be great.

Hmmm. Just came into this thread for the first time.
Ultimate Editions hmmm?
Well, all I can say is they better be pretty darned impressive over the previous releases...as double-dipping on 20-odd movies isn't exactly chump-change.
