The JVC XV-SA600 is being offered by hkflix.com for $55 less than the Laser Exchange folks ($320 vs. $375).

I'm assuming that both outfits do a good job of implementing the region-free conversion. Any reason why I should go with Laser Exchange instead of the hkflix?

Many thanks,

Cab

BTW, I should also mention that the JVC is also available from several other outfits as well, 220-electronics.com & codefreedvdmart.com for example ... (both also cheaper than Laser Exchange)

You are asking why you should pay $55 less than Laser Exchange and go with HKFlix. Didn't you answer your own question?

I can answer your question if you wanted the 500.

Well, I was looking for people's experiences with these businesses. What's customer service like, etc.

There's also the issue of how the mods are done. I'm no techie, but some firms doing conversions replace eproms, add extra microprocessors, upgrade firmware, etc., with presumably varying effects on reliability, sound/ video quality, etc. ...

It's done by adding a simple IC to the board. I ordered mine through HKFlix and had great service through them.

I got the JVC XV-SA600 from hkflix.com and all works well.
The one I have CAN play Star Wars 1 & 2 "phantom subtitles",
that is the translation of the alien's on screen.
Some JVC players had a problem.
MY zoom feature works great and after 1/2 min.
the line boxes that show your zoom location in relation
to the overall pciture turns off (as it sould).
Some people's JVC has the zoom location stay on and
that gets in the way of the zoomed picture.
The Moulin Rouge DTS track still seems out of sync,
but the "official" statement is that the DTS track
should be played at the start of the film and not just
jump into any chapter. (poor "solution")
One item I learned the hard way, DVD-Audio will ONLY
play out of the 6 analog outputs, it does NOT play out
of the digital line.
It would be nice if you could "toggle" the player to read
the disc as DVD-Audio and use the analog lines or as a
DVD-Video and use tbe digital lines depending on your
receiver.
I know the music is encoded at a higher bit rate for DVD-A
but until I get a 5.1 analog input receiver, I can only
hear the higher bit rates on DVD-A discs with a 2.0 mix.
Some DVD-A discs have both 5.1 and 2.0 mixes at 48 bit,
but some only have a 5.1 mix. If I could toggle the player
into a DVD-V mode, then I could get to the 5.1 mix at the
lower 24 bit coming out of the optical line.
(I would just like a little more control, but thats just me)
The player runs very cool, not heat up at all.
