Suggestions for a good 36" or bigger tube type TV under $1k? (1 Viewer)

Moving into an apartment and need a good set but not too big for under a grand. What would YOU suggest?
Flat screen ok too...

BTW-a friend suggested a Toshiba 36" w/PIP and the stand @ my local Sam's Club for $799. Any thoughts on this?

Todd what was the model #on the toshiba? There's a thread on a hitachi model in the avsforum which could be had under $1,000 since it's last years model. Do a search on avs forum for hitachi, there were alot of responses.
