"Squeze" Mode For HDTV (1 Viewer)

When is it most appropriate to use "squeze" mode (I believe that this is the 16:9 mode available on 4:3 HDTV sets)? Is this something that you should use while watching 4:3 cable or satellite broadcasts? It seems like the best use would be anamorphic DVDs but I am wondering if there are other times to use it. I recently bought a Panasonic CT32HX41 that has this option.
