Are rgb connectors and dvi connectors the same? Can you plug an rgb computer cable into a dvi slot or does it require a special dvi cable? I presume they are different but thought someone might know for sure.

They are very different. Even within DVI there are 3 types of connectors. Check out http://www.networktechinc.com/dvi.html for a pictures of each. Physically there might exist a converter for DVI-A to the regular VGA connctor since they are both analog signals, but hopefully you are looking at DVI-D and would therefor need a DVI cable. Hope that answers your question.
