Hello guys, I am new to this site and the Audiophile world. I was wondering if I could get a little help from some of you that are definitely more qualified to answer the following. I was told sometime ago that not all recordings onto CDs are actually worth listening too. Even if it's a big name artists. In fact I was told that sometimes the bigger the artists the worse the recording. Is that true?

You see I like listening to all kinds of music, but my order of preference would be Country, Classic Rock, Classical trained Pianist(Billy Joel, Elton, etc),just to name a few. If there is a Huge difference between the recording studios then where do I find the top notch CD from those top notch studios? Thanks for the help!

Some recordings are not that great. There are a bunch of audiophile labels that may offer some of what you are interested in including:

There are others as well. In addition, some things have been put out on XRCDs which takes extra care in the recording chain. You can look (for CDs) at places like:
