What should be the maximum length of a run of interconnect terminted by RCA before I should step up to XLR termination?

I have a pair of Active 40 speakers and my interconnect runs about 8 feet. Would there be an real difference between RCA and XLR at this length?

Thx

I prefer to use balanced connections wherever possible. Of course a quality RCA vs. a mediocre balanced may well be better. I run balanced on the front 3 channels from my preamp to amp and found a difference with good quality cables of only 30 inches. The XLR connector locks nicely into place.

Vince,

If you already have equipment with balanced connections, by all means use them. If not, it is not worth the expense of conversion for the sake of an 8-ft. cable run.
