"Captain, I canna change the laws of physics"

I will. I'll watch a double bill of old episodes late tonight as a tribute.

The Trouble with Tribbles had a memorable Scotty scene when a Klingon suggests the Enterprise should be hauled away as garbage.:)

I can see him playing the bagpipes at the end of WOK right now.

RIP Mr. Doohan.

"They called the Enterprise a garbage scow!...sir..."

A Canuck Trek crew member has faced his own Kobyashi Maru.

God bless Mr. Doohan.

Another link from MSNBC.

I can't believe it was just 4 years ago that he was at Dragon Con, I still recall his panels vividly, and the stories he related to an appreciative crowd.

RIP, Scotty!

Why do I get the feeling that in that photo, he's about to do his own "re-creation of the Evil Captain Kirk from episode #37?" ;)

KIRK: Mr. Scott, have you always multiplied your repair estimates by a factor of four?

SCOTTY: Certainly, sir; how else could I keep my reputation as a miracle worker?

-----------

McCOY: You realize, of course, if we give him the formula, we're altering the future.

SCOTTY: Why? How do we know he didn't invent the thing?

-----------

SCOTTY: The engine's bypassed like Christmas tree, so don't give me too many bumps. :D

Scotty: "Computer? Hello Computer?"

1980's engineer: "Uh, you have to use the keyboard"

Scotty: "The keyboard....how quaint!"

RIP Mr. Doohan =(

As a 48 year old, I had the pleasure of becoming a fan of Star Trek when the series first aired. (I was in third grade at the time) I've always held TOS in special love and regard, and am deeply saddened by the passing of Jimmy D. He was a cool head, and good man to have below, nursing just a little more from the warp engines. God speed Mr. Scott.

I had the pleasure of interviewing him at a convention back in 1987. When I asked if he could give us a little of Scotty's accent, he said in his famous scottish brogue, "Fer that, laddie, I'd have to charge ya!"

Warp Speed, Mr. Doohan. I think I'll cue up some ST discs tonight as well.

Here's a nice little seldom-repeated exchange from The Trouble with Tribbles

:) Thanks for all the wonderful moments, Jimmy.

I met him, very briefly, the night Star Trek VI opened at the Lewis and Clark Theater (something else I am mourning, it is being torn down and turned into a church!!).

Anyway, after the movie, he was standing up at the podium where he had given a brief chat before the movie, talking to the manager of the theater (I think). Somehow, I worked up the nerve to walk over to that podium, and I said, in a shaky little girl/fangirl voice, "Excuse me Mr. Doohan?"

He immediately knelt down on the stage and said, "Yes?"

"I just wanted to thank you for a great show!"

He gave me a big, warm smile and said you're welcome.

I was over the moon. A true gentleman through and through.

*****************************

I also saw him on the night Star Trek III premiered, and he was just hilarious! "If I were Captain of the Enterprise..."

Chekhov would not be allowed to scream anymore.
Uhura would be given another line besides, "Hailing frequencies open, Captain."
The phaser and photon torpedo controls would be removed from Sulu's station.
Ensign Kirk would only be allowed one woman every six months.
And Spock would never, ever be allowed near MY engine room again.

Unfortunately, I can't remember what he said he would change about McCoy.

RIP James Doohan. You were one in a billion!

I very much enjoyed what James Doohan brought to the show and the films over the years. He always seemed like someone who was very gracious with fans, and I'm sad for his family. I don't know the extent of his disease, but Alzheimers is a brutal thing for anyone or any family to have to deal with.

There will never be another like him.

I had the pleasure to meet him in an odd circumstance, a co-worker at my previous job is a relative of his and he was in town and came to visit our company. How cool is it to see him come into our offices and take the time to pose and sign things. He was told about me and spent time to sit at my desk, sign and pose with me. I had seen him before at a few conventions, as well as other cast members, but this was truely a cool experience! Best to him and his family.
