Hi,

Can anyone help me with the following. I am about to place a bid on e-bay on a piece of equipment being sold in the US. What kind of duties and taxes would I pay if:

1. I buy used equipment made in Canada (or US, if NAFTA matters)

2. I buy a new equipment made in Canada (and US?)

3. I buy used equipment made outside Canada and US

Thanks,

GK

George:
1. No Duty, Pay GST and Import fees charged by shipping agency
2. same as 1
3. Duty and GST and Import fees.

note that UPS charges excessive amounts to process trans-border shipments. USPS, FedEx and others charge much lower rates.

According to the Canada Customs and Revenue:
'Your goods qualify for the U.S. Duty Free rate under NAFTA if they are:
1) For personal use, and
2) Marked as made in the United States or Canada, or
3) Not marked or labeled to indicate that they were made anywhere other than in the United States or Canada.
