I want to give friends of mine a set of outdoor
speakers for their rather large backyard that is
around an acre in size.

I am looking at these speakers from Radio Shack:

A few questions....

1. Are these the type of speakers that will play
LOUD? Can it fill a good portion of the backyard
with audio?

2. Can these speakers easily be blown if audio
level is turned up too loud?

Any suggestions for slightly better outdoor
speakers that I can buy quickly at about the
same price?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Ron,Best Buy has some Yammy's for 99 and/or 119 bucks. Haven't heard them but one thing I look for in outdoor speakers is how low they go (bass really gets dissapated quickly outside). I notice the Rat Shack ones you linked to only go to 85 hz. The Yammys I mention go to 55 (IIRC).

Ron,

Going on the facts you’re presented -
  • They want to play it - as you put it – LOUD
  • It’s not only outdoors, but the yard is huge
  • The speaker is only rated for 60 watts RMS
  • No efficiency rating is provided
  • The woofer is only 5-1/4”
- to me it all adds up to “kaboom.”
