Do you need a special receiver to hook one up? I will have ten or twelve speakers. I'm considering an Onkyo receiver.

You shouldn't have any problem. Make sure you get one that can handle up to 6 pairs of speakers.
When impedance protection is on, it cuts the RMS in half to the speakers.
