Harry Potter Becomes Fastest Selling British Video

    By REUTERS

    Filed at 4:15 p.m. ET

LONDON (Reuters) - Boy wizard Harry Potter may have weaved a little magic over the weekend to ensure the video and DVD release of ``Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone'' broke British industry sales records.

Warner Home Video said on Sunday over 1.25 million copies of the big screen hit, known as ``Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone'' in the United States, sold on its first day of release, breaking the previous record set by ``Titanic'' of 1.1 million copies.

The British record is for the number of units sold in a 24-hour period.

Well, given that Titanic was released in 1999, when DVD player ownership was a fraction of what it is today, I'd hardly say Potter "sunk" Titanic.

These sales include VIDEO as well as DVD. The fact is that Potter did outsell Titanic in the same time frame.[IMG]

well gee....Titanic didn't even come out on DVD the same time it did on VHS. We had to wait a whole friekin year and didn't even get an amorphic transfer. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Star Wars will regain it's proper number 1 place in 2006, don't you worry.
