Ports: Must they be totally inside the enclosure? (1 Viewer)

Hi again everyone!

I'm building a couple of new sub enclosures for the theater. My ports need to be about 24" long and I don't have that much depth inside the enclosure. Since these enclosures won't be visable, is there any issue with letting the port protrude partially outside of the enclosure? I'd probably have about 5 - 6" protruding above the box.

All advice welcomed!

No problem there. Just remember to subtract the volume of the port inside the box. What drivers are you using and what is the system Q?

Thanks for the replies!

I'm using the AV-15 in a 6ft^3 enclosure tuned to 20 hz - 6" port. I'll have one of these subs on each side of the stage area.

Thanks again!

You can also use an elbow and bend the prot inside the box if you like so long as the total lenght is the same.

If you're going to be bending the port inside the box I recommend switching to a rectangular port using the (inside of the) external wall as one side of the port.
