Looking for ideas re: purchasing OTA HDTV receiver & antenna. My current setup is Tosh40H80 with standard cable.

I would like to add a set-top HDTV receiver and antenna for OTA stations.

Antennaweb says I need a "Med-Directional" (red zone) to receive Boston DTV stations in Rhode Island.

[CBS & Fox are close----ABC & NBC are furthest]

**Unfortunately, I live in an apartment in an old 3-story home and can't mount on the roof.

I don't have any plans to purchase satellite in the near future, and don't know if/when Cox Cable in the Northeast will be offering HD content/equipment.

ANY info or redirects would be appreciated.

I noticed that there is a new Toshiba HDTV STB, but that includes a DirectTV receiver---do all current receivers include either DirectTV or Dish?

Regards,

Keith

Keith,

I use a Dish6000 w/OTA card which works great for me. As far as I know, you need a satellite feed (suscription) to do this. A DTC100 (Direct TV) can be a stand alone HD/OTA decoder without a satelite hookup.

If CBS is really local, an indoor unit such as a silver sensor might work.

FOX does not do true 1080i HD.

If the ABC channel you are thinking about is WTNH from New Haven, be aware that is channel-10 VHF (different antenna type needed). They do pass 5.1 and ABC does 720p which your decoder would upconvert to 1080i.

NBC if far away, would require a more serious (attic mount) UHF unit.

Thanks John.

Is the "silver sensor" a RadioShack unit?

CBS is listed as WBZ, ch30(DTV)

FOX is listed as WFXT, ch31(DTV)

[closer--Boston maybe]

ABC is listed as WCVB, ch20(DTV)

[further away--Boston?]

NBC is listed as WHDH, ch42(DTV)

[not sure where it is]

New Haven stations would be too far for me, I think.

Boston is less than 60 miles from my house.

Thanks John.

It seems noone has had success with the Terk-TV55, but I have seen others mention Radio Shack bowties?
