Onkyo TX-NR801 versus Marantz SR-7400 (1 Viewer)

I'm tossed between the Onkyo TX-NR801 versus Marantz SR-7400. Price is about equal on sale.

The Onkyo gets the Nettune option, which I don't think is all that necessary; I'd rather go for the better sound and quality.

I'd appreciate any thoughts you all have; this would be my first "real" receiver (moving up from HTIB crap).

What price are you looking at for the 7400? New? I think the 801 will have the slight edge in power and features. Sound will probably be close, but the 7400 might have an edge there. Either would be a good choice.

I found the 7400 deep-discounted for $599 new. The Onkyo for roughly the same amount of $, so price is a wash.

If price is a wash, I'd probably go for the 801 (and I'm a Marantz guy).

Tough call. Flip the proverbial coin. Impressive prices by the way, both are a good score for sure.
