Been buying pieces of my system for a year while my room is getting finished,purchased this awhile ago, before doing much research. how did i do? (maybe i don't want to know)

You did fine. I think the Onkyo 601 is most likely a nice receiver, I have an HT-500, as long as you didn't over-pay for it. Only thing is, like computers and tv's, had you waited a little longer you could have purchased a better receiver for near the same cost. But that aside, I think you will be satisfied with the 601. Until the bug bites.
