Radiohead - OK Computer is my hands down favorite. IMO it's the best album ever recorded. :) (SACD PLEASE!!)

other recommendations:
Phish - Billy Breathes
any other Radiohead
Dave Matthews Band - Crash

and if you're into GOOD hard rock by musicians (as opposed to headbanging idiots), check out Tool - Lateralus and Tool - AEnima.

Is the regular CD ok? Everytime I've seen this one come up everyone says to find a copy of the DCC version. I'm not real keen on paying the prices the DCC disc is going for right now. If I could find one for $25-$35 maybe, but it's been going for a lot more than that.

I think it might be time to rejoin a CD club so I can pick some of these up that I don't get as gifts.

Since you don't have SACD or DVD-A yet, I'll list some redbook CDs that have a decent quality version that I either have been listening to lately or just like a lot. It's not so easy, because a lot of my purchases lately have been hi-rez.

Chicago - Chicago Transit Authority (Chicago I)
Jethro Tull - Songs from the Wood, Minstrel in the Gallery
Little Feat - Waiting for Columbus
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
The Rippingtons - Curves Ahead
The Stones - Beggar's Banquet, Let it Bleed (even the redbook layer is excellent)
Spyro Gyra - Morning Dance
Steely Dan - Aja
Supertramp - Breakfast in America
Pete Townshend and Ronnie Lane - Rough Mix
Traffic - John Barleycorn Must Die
The Who - Quadrophenia
Yes - Close to the Edge

Mike,

Hmmm, I may need to take all your jazz recommendations very seriously  . BTW, just picked up the new Minstrel remaster. A quick listen did show an improvement over my old disc (c. 1988), which wasn't shabby to begin with.

Brian,

Since you're from the Twin Cities, you need some Prince in your collection if you don't already. The Hits 1&2 is a great collection.

Another noteworthy Minneapolis band is The Jayhawks. I recommend Hollywood Town Hall.

Mike C F,
Those are some sweet picks you got there. Since it seems like we share similar taste, I will check out Jeff Buckley when I get a shot. I've never heard his music before.

To be sure to avoid overlap, I'll restrict my list to anything by Procol Harum (I think I'm the only one at HTF that likes them). I'd probably recommend either "Shine on Brightly" or "A Salty Dog" but if you're going by what's in Best Buy, then your only choice will likely be a greatest hits compilation, which will make it easy for you to choose.

You will never regret augmenting/completing your Beatles collection. Until they all come out in high res and you start over;)

Other Mike (B),

I hope you enjoy....unfortunately your look into the Buckley discography will be a short one...he drowned while recording his second full-length studio album (well..not actually in the act of recording...but swimming in the Mississippi during down time). So Grace is it. There are some other live/EP/B-side stuff, but nothing compares to Grace IMHO.

At your suggestion I've picked up Mingus Ah Um (had it for a few months now)....and given it a shot. Still trying to get my arms around it. I'm finding that in the Bop world I prefer a tighter, more sparse sound at the moment. But my ability to listen may grow as I give it more time...but trying not to hijack the thread....so I'll throw a couple more albums on my list

Too Late to Stop Now - Van Morrison
Waiting For Columbus - Little Feat

Hey Marvin,
You're not alone! Procul Harum is still relevant--Transatlantic recorded one of their songs a couple of years ago and did a pretty good job with. I have 5 of Procul Harum's CDs and am on the lookout for mint condition vinyl too. Robin Trower's work from the 70s is pretty good too.

Nice choices from Columbia House, Brian.
