I was really excited when Ash vs Evil Dead first came out, but the first few episodes didn't really work for me.

Bruce Campbell is great as Ash, it had comedy, it had deadites, but it felt forced to me. The parts weren't adding up to a whole. So I gave up after a few episodes.

I recently got Netflix again, so I decided to give it another try, and I'm glad I did. Starting around episode 8 when they went back to the cabin the show really found it's groove. I should have season 1 finished by Saturday so I can watch season 2 (and maybe season 3) during the challenge.

I'm glad you gave it another chance. It really is a lot of fun. I'm watching it for the 3rd time right now. Equally as entertaining as the first viewing.

A couple of other TV notes of interest to this challenge:

AMC's new series based on Interview With the Vampire begins on October 2.

FX's new season of American Horror Story: New York City, premieres on October 19 (two eps per week).

USA/SyFy's Chucky Season 2 begins on October 5. (I've been catching up with Season 1 on my DVR recently. Not real thrilled with the show since Jennifer Tilly showed up.)

SyFy's new series, Reginald the Vampire, debuts after Chucky on October 5.

I've had that one in my queue for the past 3 years... and have never gotten to/made time for it. I really, really, really need to correct that this year...

Did you see X, the movie it's a prequel to? I've heard good things about both movies but was wondering as I haven't seen X yet.
Today I was the only person in my AMC theater watching the surreal horror movie Pearl, which also has a bit of comedy from my pov. The film has sprinkles of The Wizard of Oz, Psycho, Douglas Sirk, etc. A good and arty horror movie, which has one especially long take with some impressive method acting. My rating: A-

Each year the newest "great horror movie" gets released and I usually rush out to see them. 99% of the time I think they're all hype and very little else. I held off watching X but finally got around to it about a month ago and I must admit that I downright loved it. I really thought it was one of the best horror movies in recent memory. I might try to get to the theater for PEARL but I'll probably wait to watch it at home since I just don't do the theater very much unless it's for older films.

I’m on a waiting list at the library but hopefully I’ll get it before 10/31!

Pearl isn't the slasher movie that X is but it's got a very good performance from Mia Goth.

My daughter and I decided to jump the gun and watch The Black Phone tonight rather than wait til Saturday. That way we can reserve Saturday for an It and It: Chapter 2 double feature.

The Black Phone was fantastic with excellent performances by Ethan Hawke and the young actor playing the lead role of Finn. The movie was based off a short story by Joe Hill (Steven King's son). If you haven't seen the movie, give it a go this month if you have time. Definitely worth it.

Scream Factory is having a "Shocktober" sale (now through 10/7/22 at 11:59 p.m. PT.) with, surprisingly, fairly good prices (not "great" but lower than you'd expect from them):

Free shipping starts at $50 and there's a free T-Shirt when you spend $100+ (it's normally $30 and only available during the sale - free or purchased separately - and you can apparently make separate $100 orders to get more than one free):
