Hey all,

Not really sure what's going on here, but every time I open Word (the version from Office XP) it just sits there on the startup logo for about 12 seconds doing nothing, then opens. Same thing happens when I close word. Click the "x" and it just sits there for about the same amount of time, then closes.

Any ideas why this is happening or how I can fix it? It doesn't happen with any other program on my computer, just Word.

Oh ya, and I'm running WinXP on a 1.8GHz P4, so I know that computer speed is not the problem.

Thanks.

Try deleting the file Normal.dot and running Word again. It might cure the problem.
Unless you've changed the default location, you'll probably find the file in
Documents and SettingsAdministratorApplication DataMicrosoftTemplates
(or the same for whatever user you're in)
The Application Data folder is hidden by default, so you'll need to enable the "Show Hidden Files & Folders" option in Folder settings.

Ok, did this. It cut the startup/closing times in half, but it's still there.

Also, I tried uninstalling/reinstalling Office, but no dice.

I've never had this happen on any computer before. And especially it happening with just one program.

Any more tips?

Thanks.

Run msconfig.
What programs do you have running in the background that you dont' need.
Does wordpad have this same problem?
Does excel have this same problem?
