The Midnight Special is coming to DVD. None of the performances are the ones I was hoping for (Peter Gabriel era Genesis or Bob Welch era Fleetwood Mac) but it's a start.
Everyone should be thankful that we're getting this. Shows of this type are very difficult to license because of music rights. I'd love to have every episode just for the sake of completion. But in this case a best of compilation is fine epecially if there will be more.
Also, if this release does well then we might see more classic music series coming out, too.
It's being released by Guthy Renker. Be prepared to pay $20 for an hour's worth, after getting the first one for $9.95. I'll pass. There's nothing that can be put on film or videotape that's worth $20/hour. Not even porn or anime.
Neither of the above performers interest me. I'd rather see one of the Midnight Specials with The Rolling Stones. Mick and the guys never had a problem releasing their musical TV appearances.
I'm glad that this show is coming to DVD. I hadn't eve dared to dream that this would be released. I know the music rights would be a nightmare. I'll be greatful to get whatever is released.
Where I work, we will be taking calls for this. It will be $9.95 plus shipping and handling for the first one, then others are sent every other month for $19.95 plus S/H. I don't know how many volumes there are or the length of each volume.
I don't know if I can, since I don't work for Guthy Renker, but for a third-party call center (Convergys) that will be taking the order calls. I might be able to get a listing of artists for the first volume when the call script goes live. According to the memo they gave us, the calls start on the 21st of this month.
