Forgive me if this has been answered previously, but I couldn't find it in any recent posts. Can someone please explain the term "JP6". I see it often in the pan & scan vs. widesceen discussions and was curious about its meaning.

Hi, Kip. Cool name. Welcome to HTF.
Ok, so it's not JP6, it's J6P, which stands for Joe Six-Pack. It's a tounge-in-cheek term referring to the average Joe Blow, basically. You know, people who don't like "those black bars" on their TVs.

It's actually "J6P", and refers to "Joe 6-Pack", the average consumer who knows little or nothing about being a home theater enthusiast, and whose cries of "I don't want black bars on my TV!" and "These DVDs need to be less complicated" threaten the very future of DVD. It is the "VHS-ing" of DVD that we try to fight here at the HTF through education. Some J6Ps (most probably) are hopeless causes, but many of them just need the facts to release their inner "home-theater nut".
