Is there a good Mpeg to Avi file converter out there?

    I need this for some mpegs that I need to convert to avi for my Avid Xpress DV system. I've looked a few places but really don't know where to look I guess. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

    You could try looking through www.doom9.org. I mostly use FlaskMPEG, but many other people use DVD2AVI with good results.

    It most has to do with the codec you use as to how "good" the conversion will be... ive had identical results using VirtualDub and a number of other programs with various codecs...

    The best MPEG-4 (.avi) codec available right now to my knowledge is the XviD 2.xx... make sure you get a stable version, though, as it is constantly in development... other options are the Divx codecs... the most recent of which is Divx 5 Pro... Doom9 has a guide on how to remove the GAIN spyware that comes with it.
