Just picked this up at Best Buy for $5.99. It says widescreen on the back, but doesn't say if it 16x9. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I was finally able to get the search engine to pick up an old thread on this subject. Just in case anybody was wondering , it is not 16x9.

Yeah, I had it in my hands the day it came out, looked at the back, and put it right back down.

The picture looks just ok. I noticed a little dirt in the picture, but nothing terrible. The worst thing about the disc is that it is flagged wrong. My player will usually stretch a non 16x9 tranfer to make it look like it is. This disc is window boxed by my player. The Titanic DVD is the same way. But hey for 6 bucks I can't complain too much.

Sorry, but does someone mind explaining to me what that means?
When you insert a non-anamorphic DVD into your DVD player and if you have a 16x9 television, the film will fit your screen instead of being windowboxed. So a 1.85:1 film will fit the screen and a 2.35:1 film will still have black bars on the top and the bottom of your screen. Now if the DVD isn't flagged correctly, you'll have black bars on all four sides of the screen.

I paid $5 for the DVD, so I can't complain.

Then again I bought Camp Nowhere for $5 and it had a nice anamorphic transfer.

Fuckin' Buena Vista.
