There is no 'the' format for audiophiles.
Most audiophiles will continue to support multiple formats (vinyl, CD, SACD, DVD-A, reel-to-reel, etc.)
Some audiophiles may not support every format, but most will continue to support two or three.
One format is never enough, because the best performances/masterings/pressings of the artists/music you love never exists in one format.
There are of course the gear-only audiphiles, who only have a few recordings; really only using them for the purpose of demonstrating their latest cable or tweak. But I'd like to think they are in the minority.
