have a shot a buying denon 3700 which doesnt have dirac but 3800 will. should i wait or just pull the trigger in 3700? i think that is the only feature that is “new” all the hdmi features appears to be identical.

If you want hdmi 2.1 for gaming/vrr/8K, the 3700 only has one 2.1 input. On the 3800 they're all 2.1. Also be aware of the cost to add Dirac. It can be as much as $850 total for multiple subs, and $550 for full range, single sub. And you can't get it all for a year.

If I was 8n upgrade mode, I think I would take a different path than in the past. I would go with separates instead of a receiver. Problem is, with stuff I would like to buy, I would have to watch 3 movies a day for 10 years to recover the cost of the equipment.

I've always wanted to try Bryston Amps, but a five channel Bryston 9 cubed Amp is 16 grand Canadian. 20 year warranty and every channel has its own toroidal power supply though. :)

How old is the 3700? The initial runs of the 3700 used AKM DACs, but Denon was forced to switch DAC suppliers after the AKM fire.

I don't think anyone has tested Dirac performance on the 3800, as it was just released this week. Setting aside Dirac, though, the 3800's digital SINAD performance actually measures about 10dB worse than the initial runs of the 3700 due to the DAC switch.

this IS my processor for separates. i've already got 7x200wpc i'm using now. all i need are 4 more channels for the ceiling speakers.

i couldn't really find that in many comparison articles... the info sheet/data is scant on the newer 3800 vs. 3700... but that does it for i'm going w/3800. thank you!

maybe i'll keep waiting for second run of 3800 or possibly 3900 then.

i'm most definitely in no rush to upgrade right now right now.

I just looked at photos of the two units. The 3700 clearly shows only one 8K input, where they are all 8K on the 3800. It's the same with the 4700/4800.
