I am beginning my foray into plasm TV's. From what I've read so far, reproducing black with any quality is sometimes an issue.

I currently have an HD STB with a Sony WEGA 36" tube, so the plasma I get only needs to be HD ready.

I am perusing the threads and would appreciate any feedback.
Thanks,
John

John,

A lot of time digging through that AVS Forum should pay big dividends in terms of gathering info and beginning to narrow down your choices.

Some Q's to consider:

- size (42/43, 50, 60+?)
- brand (Fujitsu, Panasonic, Pioneer vs. others)
- can the unit handle HD copy protection (is it DVI/HDCP or similarly enabled)?
- will you need/want an external processor (CS1, CS2, NRS, etc.)
- will you budget for an ISF Tech calibration (which may help you maximize the plasma's capabilities on blacks)

Basically, boils down to:
Panasonics have better blacks, Pioneers have HDCP, don't bother with any others except maybe NEC or someone using Panasonic glass (I think Toshiba may). HDCP isn't a issue on ED plasmas as you don't care if HDTV is downresed to 480p as the panel is only 480p. HDCP is a definite concern on a HDTV plasma. Supposedly, 2004 Panasonics will have HDCP.
