Because I finally broke down and bought the old one. This inevitably happens when I buy the original versions... ie: Stargate, Resevoir Dogs, Usual Suspects, etc...

If you folks are good, I'll put Casino and Goodfellas on my shopping list next. I'm tired of waiting for them and this is the only way to insure they'll get released!

Ric, as accurate as this might be, I really wish you hadn't gotten my hopes up with the subject! :frowning:

Sorry for the tease.

I guess the thread title might be construed as a little misleading... but only to you unbelievers!

To expand a bit... What have the rest of you avoided buying the first time around, waiting for a coveted special edition... that never seems to come?

I purchased "Straw Dogs" in August - I never believed a special edition of it would ever see the light of day, until Criterion's spectacular two disk set was released this past spring...

I purchased "The Sixth Sense" a few summers back, only to see it re released with a dts track the following winter...

Finally, I purchased the barebones "Memento", knowing full well there would be a special edition down the road, just because I didn't want to wait any longer to watch the film again.

Thanks for performing this public service for us, Ric!! :D

Well, I still haven't bought The Fifth Element yet. Everything I've read here at the HTF and elsewhere indicates there will never be an SE of this puppy (Besson doesn't do SE's, etc.) but still I wait. And wait. And wait. Call me an eternal optimist! :D

By this point, it seems I just can't bring myself to buy the bare-bones or the SuperBit version. Oh well, there's so much other good product out there to spend my $$$ on!! ;)

I'm begining to think that we won't see BLADE RUNNER until March/April 2004. :frowning:

I hope I'm wrong...

But why would Scott insist on dts for BR when he lets other back catalogue releases like The Duellists go without? Not to mention new stuff like Black Hawk Down. At the end of the day, I seriously doubt Sir Ridley is getting sniffy over a dts track, and it's widely held that the legal mire which surrounds the various versions of BR appears to be what has put the SE on hold for so long. But dts would be nice, though...

Unfortunately I THINK the delay is due to them updating the FX(which Im not happy about at all:angry:).

I wish we could get SOME info on this release. Is it going to be a 3 disc version with the original,Dir Cut and new Dir ReCut - some sort of idea of extras etc.

Jonz, the most persistent rumour has the set containing the theatrical version (no idea if it's the US or International version, the latter featuring on Criterion's BR laserdisc), the fabled workprint, and the final super-duper 'real' Director's Cut. The 1992 Director's Cut is a hastily done interim version delivered by Ridley Scott to stop Warner from releasing the workprint as the Director's Cut, and so it probably won't feature on the new set. Check Paul Sammon's great book Future Noir (if you haven't already) for more details about the different versions of BR.

There's a BR fan site with specific info about the possible work that may be done to the movie, but I can't remember the link. Sorry! IIRC it did say that the FX would possibly receive a digital clean-up for the new Director's Cut (to remove wires etc) but not an outright FX update. This is all still quite speculative though, so don't take any of it as gospel.

Geoff, yes that why I said it would be nice if we got some info, becuase we're all speculating.

One version I heard was to clean up FX while another was to add stuff like extra HoverCars and such.

Count me as one who is just looking forward to knowing for sure what will be on the SE. I have held off buying the directors cut myself, but if that cut is not going to be on the new version, I might as well get it.

The thread title has been changed. Please, misleading thread titles about hoped-for, highly anticipated releases are not cool.

Ric,

I was just about to ask you to buy a copy of the P/S Chitty Bang Bang to help get a WS version out faster...but MGM just announced the Chitty SE so maybe someone *else* just bought a copy :D

Thanks for helping to get our bladerunner SE here all the sooner!

dave :)
