I was going to Best Buy today to pick up the Die Hard Trilogy for $49.99, and thought I'd go across the street first to see what CC was selling it for. They have it for $79.99! I swear to God, I literally laughed out loud. A salesdroid asked what was so funny, and I told him, chuckling all the way out the door and over to Best Buy.

Of course you could have saved yourself the walk to Best Buy by asking CC to match the price, which they would have done.
I have also seen the opposite happen, ie, I have seen BB asking several dollars more than what CC is selling a DVD for. Of course, $30.00 is definitely a significant difference, which does surprise me! What is the list price for the DH trilogy?

I guess I was just laughing too hard to think about asking them to price match. Plus, I didn't have the ad with me, and frankly all other things being equal I prefer spending my bucks at Best Buy because of divx.

Actually in my area, CC has jacked up the prices on a lot of Fox box sets for some reason..I noticed this when X-Files season 3 box came out...becuase when seasons 1 and 2 came out, they sold them for 99.99 so i was expecting this same price the day season 3 comes out...but when i get there, they have raised the season 1 and 2 sets to 129.99 and were selling season 3 at this price too...and Alien Legacy was rasied up to 109.99 from either 89 or 99 not sure...so i left and went to a mall store of all places (sam goody) and buy XF S3 for 99.99...these are DRASTIC increases by CC in my opinion!!!....so when i walked in on this past tuesday and see diehard box for 79.99 at CC, i laughed to myself thinking that was probably the manufacturs list price...does anybody know what is going on with the FOX prodcut at CC....it is weird when you see a store like Walmart reducing a lot of things that have been out for a long while but circuit city is raising prices on things like Alien Legacy esepecially when you cant even get the bonus disc anymore????

Yea, my local CC recently downsized the store space and now there is a Quartedeck restaurant in part of the space they used to occupy.

If there's any justice in the world, you'll see Dick Sharp working there as one of the waiters.

Best Buy moved into my area first, and wowed everyone with their prices and selection. And then Circuit City moved in and charged HIGHER PRICES! I don't see how they thought that would work... you'd think they'd want competitive prices... regardless, I go to Best Buy for most of my purchases...

Because most of the DVD Deals at BB & CC are "loss-leaders" that is, they are losing revenue on these titles just to get you in the store, wouldn't it make more sense to buy at CC if you don't like them? Or is my logic at fault?

The hatred for these stores are getting worse and worse, but I guess it's their own fault.
Bruce: Despite all the bad stories you hear from HTF and the internet in general, I simply love BB for buying DVDs, CDs, videogames, and computer/HT accesories. Their prices and selections are great, but I have had many run-ins with sales associates that didn't know what they were talking about. I'm almost positive Canada will too.
I have yet to buy a $1000+, 100 lbs+ product from them, so it seems I haven't *truly* tested their cust service. We'll see what happens when the 50H81 comes out.

Where I live there was a Media Play 1st then a Best Buy. I remember MP had these real cheap prices then when BB opened those prices where gone. They started charging like $1.00 below retail while BB charged like %30 off. Talk about stupid business moves. Now there is a CC right next door to MP and I can't see how they even stay in business anymore.

Ruben,
I'm positive, I bought it. Best Buy (and CC) have a tendency to have great deals the week dvds come out which then disappear. If you check the sunday newspaper supplement, they'll have prices for dvds coming out the following Tuesday. They're usually only good from Tuesday through Sunday, at which time they raise the price. I don't know what the Best Buy price is now, but it definitely was $49. A similar thing happened with the Ultimate Toy Story Box. They had a great price, but for a limited time.
