Maybe someone can help me out. I remember seeing a thread in the movie section about a horror movie coming soon that might have been from Australia or something where this guy in a hat hunts down monsters in some small town. I remember the trailer reminded me of Evil Dead or Dead Alive. Does anyone remember the name of the movie and if it was released here? Or better yet, if its been released on DVD?

That one was Undead. It's an Aussie horror sci-fi comedy insano-fest. Last I heard, U.S. rights were picked up by Lion's Gate, although there's no sort of date set yet - or whether it'll be theatrical or DTV.

It should show up soon enough.

Ted,

Saw your post about Uzumaki, but no e-mail link. If Russell doesn't take you up on it, I'd be interested. (I don't want to veer this thread off-topic into some kind of buy/sell territory, but you gotta strike while the iron's hot!) I read the original Japanese graphic novels, and they were definitely creepy, bizarre and well done, IMO. Don't know how the movie can match some of the more "out there" scenes from the books, but I've read nothing but positive reviews of it, as well, so I'm hoping for the best.

On another topic, I'm thinking about picking up
Cure this week. Anyone seen it? The reviews look interesting.

Thanks!

- Bob P.

I don't have a region free player, so give 'er to Glenn so Glenn can offer a second opinion based on knowing the manga.

That'd be COOL! (unless someone already has, than it'd be NEAT!)

Watched Shock Waves last night. It wasn't a bad mood piece, though the people seemed to be intentionally trying to screw up, making it a little laughable at times. Zero gore. Why does the keepcase say it's rated R? The trailer and poster art all says PG, and there's nothing at all worthy of an R here.

What it got me to thinking was, what started this mini-sub-genre of "underwater Nazi zombie movies" that includes this and Zombie Lake? Are there more? What possibly made people think this was a good idea?

Nice thread...brings back memories of my college days (early-mid 90's). See my small horror dvd collection below... My buddy was an absolute horror movie freak and we had this great video store nearby - 5 rentals for 5 days for 5 bucks - too cool. His mission was to "show" me everything he'd seen which was pretty much every title in the place. Plus the hundred or so titles he'd brought from home out east. Now mind you, I like the occasional horror movie but after a while I got turned off a bit. But really - what else is there to do in the dorms besides party when you don't have a car? Overall, I'd have to say that Zombie films are me least favorite of the whole genre - and I've seen my fair share. I think Burial Ground did me in. There was one scene I just couldn't take - ugh. I did get a kick out of the whole "backwoods freak" subgenre though...(Mothers Day, etc).

Some DVD's I have to get:
Troll 1 & 2
Critters 1 & 2
Fright Night
Tremors 4 (with Tremors 1)
American Werewolf in London
American Werewolf in Paris

Some DVD's I'd like to get:
Black Christmas
House on Haunted Hill (1959)
House on Haunted Hill (1999)
Mimic
Salem's Lot
Silverbullet
Nightmare on Elm Street 1-3

Some I'd love to see come out on DVD:
Night of the Creeps
Terror Train
The Monster Squad

My Collection:
Lost Boys (I've got to get the SE when it comes out!)
Alien SE
Aliens SE & DC
Army of Darkness
Army of Darkness DC Bootleg Edition
Angel Season 1
Buffy Seasons 1-3
Creapshow
Evil Dead 2 SE
The Fog SE
From Dusk Till Dawn CS
Gremlins 1, 2
House 1 & 2
Jaws CE
Killer Klowns From Outer Space
Poltergeist 2 & 3
They Live (I tend to think of this one as Sci-Fi)
Underworld SE

Watched the Thanhouser vol. 1 DVD last night, with the earliest extant, if not first, (1912) film version of Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde. It's pretty competently adapted for a one-reel and the effects are okay if not spectacular. No gore, of course, but a minister gets strangled on camera so that's a plus. :)

Haven't seen a good Horror thread since Max got ba...quit.

The Undead is out on DVD in the UK

Anyone seen The Bunker. Its out in Germany and the UK. A decent Nazi Zombie flick. Although all of the Nazi's have British accents.

The Phone was good as was Juon: The Grudge.

I'd second Onibaba. Its out in Japan with English subs. I believe the Criterion version comes out in May.

Someone in the know... tell me more about "My Little Eye." I'd like to find out about it, and if you think I'd like it.

Right now I'm on something of a "Wicker Man" kick. I could watch that movie once a week, I think. Also, someone recently suggested I get into Argento. I bought Suspiria sight unseen and really dug it (though it had to grow on me) so there's lots of Argento in my Netflix queue right now.
