Prom for me is coming soon...but I have no damned idea on what to wear exactly. The prom has a white theme, so everyone must wear white. My original idea was to look like Michael Corleone, all 50's gangsterish and whatnot, but I dont know if that would look so hot in a white suit. My preference is something that would look classic, yet modern. Any ideas from the stylish chaps at the HTF? :)

Make your tux out of white duct tape. There's actually a website somewhere that will pay you a scholarship of $1000 or $2000 if you make and wear a duct tape suit to prom. It's time-consuming, but I know people who have done it and it turned out pretty cool.

Black tux top. Black/Green hatch Kilt bottom. In traditional style.

Many tux shops have them, they are very slick and very formal, but different enough you'll stand out without looking like a pimp. (see above) and people will talk about it later :)

What? They are making you wear white before hand? Abomination. If any school function I ever attended said "you must wear X" I'd think that'd be discriminatory against students who have what they own and don't have a ton of $ to plunk down on a big suit. Flat out, in HS, I was -broke-. If you would have told me I couldn't wear what I could quickly rent cheap (which would be black) then I would say "well, I just won't show"

Ya know, I just glanced at the title of this thread and I swore it said "Help me with ideas for a porn site". :b

Think James Bond in "Thunderball." White dinner jacket, classic tux shirt and black pants. That is the "classy" thing to wear to the prom.:)

If you must wear white, then Chuck and Richard have the best suggestions.

Back in the 50s (at least where I lived) a white sports coat with a white tux shirt (with black bow tie, of course) and black tux pants was almost mandatory for proms, country club dances and such—but only after Memorial Day (why then, I don’t know). Before then, the classic tux was all the go.

You could of course use the coat with non-tux slacks for other occasions.

My only problem was looking like Bogie. ;)

You could of course hold to wearing a white tux shirt as enough white to meet the theme requirements. If you can get away with this, go for the classic tux. All men look best in this—you just need to decide what collar and lapel style look best on you—I’ve always been partial to the shawl collar (as in the picture of Bogart)—his coat is almost double breasted—though I prefer more of a single breasted look—perhaps only two buttons to give a bit more length to the look.

I don’t like the heavily peaked lapels, but that style is very popular and it might look good on you.

Avoid at all costs those heavily ruffled tux shirts—understated with pleats looks very well.

Finally wear tux pants—the ones with the satin stripe down the side if you go with either a white coat or a black tux.

And really finally, if you don’t already know how, learn to tie a bow tie—don’t wear a pre-tied one—late in the evening, you can untie yours, looking devil-may-care with the loose ends dangling from either side of an open collar.

My guess is, at a prom no other guy will be able to match that.

Also make sure you go with the kind of shirt that Bogie is wearing too. The wingtip is a little cheesy in my opinion.
With the other collar you are putting out that Rat Pack vibe.
