Has any body compared old Sony vpl-vw5000es with new Sony VLP XW7000es, is it worth replacing Sony vpl-vw5000es with new Sony VLP XW7000es? I will really appreciate someone's professional advice.
Room is simple. 15 x 26, a living room. McIntosh mx160, with 7 speakers. Mcintosh 2 channel + 7 channel keel amp. 130” stuwert 16x9 screen.
I just need someone’s opinion who tried both projectors and can tell if there are any improvements in image quality or better colors in xw7000 over the vw5000.
I've not seen either projector, but have read quite a bit about them on another forum. The the VW5000ES gets a lot brighter, but also suffers from engine block deterioration. Based upon early reports, it seems the newer line is less susceptible. Color will be similar after a proper calibration. I think the VW5000 is overkill for brightness on a screen size at 130".
I would consider the JVC NZ9/RS4100 over either Sony at this price range. It will have much better contrast, blacks, wider color gamut in P3, and much better tone mapping for HDR. The NZ8 and NZ7 can also be considered and are priced lower. But they won't have as much brightness.
The VW5000 has a wider color gamut than either the XW5000 or the JVC. (That’s not to say the difference would be noticeable.) I think the XW7000 would be considered a step down from the VW5000.
