Halo, XBOX & 16x9 (1 Viewer)

Has 16x9 support been verified in Halo? I've read numerous things about support of both 16x9 and hi-res, but nothing official. I've played the full version at a kiosk, and read the manual (bought the game today), but I cannot find any mention of widescreen or hi-res support.

What's the deal?

A friend of mine who has spent a whole lot of time with the game (beaten it twice) mentioned one of his sessions with an earlier build on a widescreen Toshiba set at 1080i with a nice DefTech/Marantz sound set-up.
