A few moments after Dan Aykroyd vocally supports the new Ghostbusters movie for Sony:

So according to Dan Aykroyd:

"As originator of the original: Saw test screening of new movie. Apart from brilliant, genuine performances from the cast both female and male, it has more laughs and more scares than the first 2 films plus Bill Murray is in it! As one of millions of man-fans and Ray Stantz, I'm paying to see that and bringing all my friends!"

Mind you, he does have a stake in this movie doing well (Rights=$$$ in his pocket), plus he did give us Blues Brothers 2000, and the creator backing a project is not a high water mark of quality (James Cameron said that Terminator Genesys was the best thing ever), so take this with the huge grain of salt that it deserves.
Not to mention Dr. Detroit and $50 bottles of vodka...

I can't believe this film thread is generating so much activity since, most have expressed no interest in this film and think it's going to stink.
I can believe it. Members of this forum who are expressing why the film (based on the released trailers) looks bad to them. Nothing wrong with that. And if this thread is generating traffic, good or bad it is still traffic, and that is always good for HTF.
I still plan on seeing this movie when it is released.

Paul Feig and Judd Apatow are going fully around the bend, labeling critics of the film as "right-wing misogynists," among other things. Let's browbeat the film-going public! They better come see our film!

I guess it's going around, with JK Rowling labeling anyone who has misgivings about a black Hermione as racist. Do these people not know how fandom works? If Luke is suddenly swinging the light saber with his left hand, nerds will scream, "What the hell are you doing!?" And they don't hate southpaws. (and Mark Hamill is apparently left-handed, so LOL)

I'm sure that is true for SOME people but to say that it's the source of all the venom directed at the movie or that it's the only people complaining is just them burying their heads in the sand. Also, Apatow doesn't even have anything to do with the movie but I guess he wants to help out his old buddy Paul Feig since he's getting his balls beat off.

Greg, if I may ask, can we avoid using the 'R' word. Thanks.

I still plan on seeing the movie. I have thought from the beginning that it looked intriguing. After years of false starts on a third Ghostbusters movie, I think using a female cast was the right move. I generally don't judge a movie on the trailers anyway (yes, I have commented that the trailer for last year's San Andreas looked terrible, but I was never going to see a piece of disaster porn anyway). I will happily see this opening weekend, and I'll be glad to let people know whether I think it's good or not. Of course, I want it to be good.

Yeah, that's what I was talking about. I knew it was a risk and shouldn't have taken it.

No worries, Greg. I understand (and should have caught the movie reference as its a great movie) but I appreciate the edit. And that's a very English phrase you changed it with (it's something my mum would say a lot).

Anyway...cheers!

Took the boy to see the original yesterday (thanks, Fathom!). The crowd was smaller than I'd expected -- only a few dozen people -- but the movie really held up well. I hadn't watched it straight through in a very long time, and wasn't sure how fun it would be. Answer: about as fun as when my dad took me to see it 32 years ago.

I'm glad that Junior got to see the original before the remake. :) There was a very brief intro with Ivan Reitman, where he said there'd be a sneak peek at the new movie afterward, but we forgot to stay for it.

A new batch of TV spots for the film have been released, three of which you can find below:

The fourth, however, has been pulled from the web by Sony Pictures—perhaps because it “accidentally” revealed that the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man is indeed in the film. The shot, which had previously been shown in trailers with Stay Puft absent, is still available to view online however, even as Sony Pictures moves to shut down re-uploads of the TV spot.

Isn't there already a shot of Puffie in one of the trailers? I'm sure I caught a brief glimpse of him!
