I actually rewatched this recently (bought it in HD on iTunes, never dreaming there would be a Blu-ray!) and I don't find it comedic in the least. To me it's a straight drama. Are you thinking of some other film like La Cage Aux Folles?

Huh? Straight drama?

Isn't it surely black comedy?
A lot of Frear's pictures are both comedic and bleak. Even the Grifters (his very best IMO) has some incredibly funny stuff, alternating with real grimness.

Thank god Laundrette is getting the Blu treatment, the run of HV so far has been abysmal. Also for fans there's a French Elephant label BD/DVD combo of Prick Up your Ears....

I can't just have a wank. I need three days' notice to have a wank. You can just stand there and do it. Me, it's like organizing D-Day. Forces have to be assembled, magazines bought, the past dredged up for some suitably unsavory episode, the dog-eared thought of which can still produce a faint flicker of desire! Have a wank! It'd be easier to raise the Titanic.

Just wanted to let the faithful here know my film Midnight is premiering April 10 at the Boston LGBT film fest.

I am flying out with one of the leads for the screening and a Q&A after.

Will Krupp - you're local right? Would love to meet you if you can make it!
Are you going to be at the SF festival this June with your film?

Jose, there is a decent chance we will play Austin later this year. Our star has had a presence at that festival before. (AGLIFF)

And gee whiz y'all make little old me feel mighty bashful. Very excited to meet Will and hopefully more of you as this thing rolls out

Me too, I'd LOVE to have an excuse to visit SF! Frameline is one of the most prestigious LGBT venues, and hopefully if we have good word out of Boston it may help us there. Who knows. It's all very opaque ;)

I hate to break the momentum going here, but I wanted to take a moment and note that Matt has written a great Blu-ray review for Grantchester, a UK series about a handsome vicar (James Norton) that aired on PBS around the same time as Downton Abbey.

While it bears passing resemblance to other period mystery shows set in the English countryside, this one has more than one gay character in it and a storyline that will hit home for some of us; I really enjoyed it.

Rather than try to summarize the program on my own, I would prefer to refer you to Matt's terrific review, which can be found here: http://www.hometheaterforum.com/topic/340066-grantchester-blu-ray-review/

Cheers!

Thank you, Mark, and I would direct folks' attention particularly to episode four (disc two) which contains a very touching story and well represents the mind-set of England circa 1953.

I really enjoyed this series. The "bromance" is well handled, as you see the Robson Green character softening slowly under Sidney's influence, and becoming more accepting of...well, just about anything, even a poof who doesn't "know(?)" that he's a poof (Green's terminology, not mine).

I saw the first episode of Grantchester and really quite liked it (I mean, James Norton, what's not to like?) I guess other things got in the way and I never got around to seeing the rest so this might be as good a time as any! Thanks Mark and Matt!

Oh by the way, I had the chance to see the entire run of CUCUMBER and BANANA. A little rocky at the start (unsympathetic characters, shades of the early episodes of LOOKING) but WELL worth it once it gets moving and it gets moving pretty quickly. By about episode three I was hooked. I LOVED it!

Keep an eye out!

NEWS from the MIDNIGHT premiere!

It was a great night for Ted with a really receptive audience and a fun Q&A after the screening. Wonderful movie in a great venue (the Emerson College Restoration of the old Paramount Movie Palace, though we were in an upstairs screening room not the main auditorium) Co-star Anderson Concalves was with Ted and COULDN'T have been sweeter (not too hard on the eyes, either!) It was a really great time and so much fun to see it on the big screen.

The documentary screened with it (SEED MONEY) is well worth a look as well (and yes, I felt as old as dirt as I was able to name every single porn star from the early to mid Falcon days in my head while the adorable 23 year old puppy to my right might as well as have been watching a silent movie starring Theda Bara!)

And it was great to meet Ted in person (though I felt like I've known him forever) and it's funny that we were able to comfortably fall into a conversation pattern with the ease of people who'd known each other for years!
