Gamecube Memory cards-huh? (1 Viewer)

I noticed something strange when I bought my cube the other day at Future Shop.

Memory card 59 (Nintendo) 24.99
Memory Card 251 (Nintendo) 29.99

So 5 bucks more, 4x the capacity, and both first party. I don't get it-what's the catch? Why still sell the 59s at this point? I'd think they'd just be phasing them out, but wouldn't it make more sense to do so at a bit more of a discount?

59s are a lovely grey colour that matches the front of the machine, rather than the black 251s, which would look rather odd in my purple Cube.

More sensibly, the format of the cards can only cope with a certain number of seperate save files (either 64 or 100, I forget) so if you've got lots of tiny files the 251s are a waste.

Maybe that's why they're selling the Sunshine bundle with a MC 59-trying to offload extra stock perhaps?

I have 2 -59's that I bought with my system and I've dumped everything except my animal crossing stuff on my 251.

There is only a $5 dollar difference here in the states as well. Go figure.

I have both both and they both work just fine. I doubt I'll need anymore but if I did I would purchase the 251...it's a much better deal! BTW, I got my 251 for around $20.00...

I have 1 Mem59 for important backups, but I use an Interact 16X card for everything. People usually shun 3rd party memory products, but I think Interact did a good job with this card. 1000+ blocks, holds a large number of files, $30.

To each his own, however.
