Gaining optical inputs (1 Viewer)

I'm planning on buying a new receiver in the future but can't at this point. I'm needing more optical inputs than what my receiver has. Is there any equipment (preferrably cheap) to do this? At Radio Shack I saw something that lets you plug one device into optical inputs on two seperate devices; could this work in reverse?

I don't think that it works in reverse. However RS does have an optical switcher. It is part number 15-1586 which sells for $29.99
