Changes coming for those that have ad free subscriptions.
Warner Bros. Discovery announced this week that they will be making changes to ad-free subscriptions to Max
The new changes will mean that users on the standard ad-free tier ($15.99/month) will no longer be able to stream in 4K beginning on their next billing date. The number of allowable concurrent streams will also drop from three to two.

Right the shows not being available in 4K and Atmos is what hurts. IIRC for Fios HBO was an add on. I wonder how the costs compares to just canceling it in Fios and buying the subscription directly. I have to look at that.I just got the email as well
My HBO MAX is tied into my Verizon Fios HBO channel subscription for my TV so I never had any idea what tier I was on.
This letter puts it all in perspective.
So, essentially, all my viewing will now be in 1080p with no 4k and Atmos availability.
The bad news is that streaming continues to become increasingly expensive. The good news is that I rarely watch any first-run movies on the service so the 4k is not that important to me. However, that being said, shows like EUPHORIA and HOUSE OF DRAGON will not be accessible in higher resolution.
While I'm happy to buy UHDs instead of BDs, I'm fine with watching 1080p HD at the current fee level rather than pay more for 4K streaming.
Hell, as it is, for things that have been shown on HBO (cable) as well as MAX (eg., The Last of Us) I've tended to watch them on HBO rather than MAX just because the user interface is better. I think the last thing I actually watched on MAX was the final Titans episodes. I still need to get my account on MAX re-synched to my Comcast account so that I can watch the final Doom Patrol episodes, as well as Our Flag Means Death S2. I haven't noticed anything else advertised for MAX-only that I've felt compelled to watch in months.
